Darcy & RoyDarcy DaSilva is  a singer-songwriter, composer and musician. She has taken much inspiration from her family and friends, as she grew up surrounded by talented and devoted musicians. The beautiful countryside of South West Scotland is also an important inspiration for Darcy. She likes to put into words and sounds what people feel when at one with nature and with others.

Over the years, she has had the privilege of working with some fine musicians such as Karine Polwart, Phil Cunningham, Malcolm Bushby and, most recently, Roy Marchbank. She believes that sharing the music and beauty within us is the essence of existence and to be around such dedicated musicians has been and is a gift.

Alongside composing and performing her own material, Darcy is a skilled pianist and plays guitar, a little accordion and sings traditional Scots and Irish songs. “She looks like an angel and she sings like an angel” – Aaron Jones (Old Blind Dogs).

Roy Marchbank decribes himself as a session musician and, “Virtuoso Celtic Fusion guitarist”. He studied in Scotland’s Perth Music College and upon finishing, taught guitar privately in Edinburgh. He left soon after for Dublin to play with Bohinta. Roy played for theatre shows while in Ireland such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, The Rocky Horror Picture Show & numerous other stage performances and also juggled rehearsals and session work for artists such as Marion Bradfield “The Emperors Field” & Lesley Dowdall, solo artist & ex “In Tua Nua” artist as well as teaching in the music school of Nass Ireland.

Roy subsequently left Ireland to play with Scottish band “The Iron Horse” touring & recording internationally for almost four years. During this time he recorded guitar for Aine Furey’s debut album “Sweetest Summer Rain”, The Iron Horse for BBC Radio Scotland & a cultural exchange program with the Uzbekistan twenty piece chamber orchestra Sogdiana – thanks to the British Council.

When The Iron Horse split in search of there own solo careers, Roy returned to Dublin to record an EP with Invisible Boss. Roy now currently resides in Barcelona &  completed his first solo album “Widowmakers Highway” in 2005. He now teaches from his home in Moniaive, as well as performing with “Two Left Feet”, Darcy and others.

Kate and ZoeSaturday 16th August sees a couple of young budding singer/songwriters perform in Kings Coffee and Books, as part of our Summer Acoustic series

Kate Kyle lives on a farm near Collin and is just 12 years old. She’s been writing some great songs of her own and has just returned from Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee, where she experienced first-hand life in the heart of the American music industry. Her style is developing along the lines of folk/country theme. She’s also confident with a guitar and loves entertaining people. Kate will be performing her own songs, as well as her own interpretation of well known hits by Coldplay, Ed Sheeran etc. As well as appearing in Kings, she’s booked to perform in Jurassic Hard Copy on 23rd August and is loving every minute of her exciting musical journey. Kate starts in Dumfries High School later this month and is looking forward to developing her musical skills there too.

Zoe Little, from Langholm is 14 years old and already familiar with the stage, having been keenly involved with Langholm Academy Centre-Stage & Carlisle Drama School. She’s now adding her love of music to her performance repertoir, singing to guitar, with a mix of rock and contemporary acoustic music. She’s inspired by her favourite bands – Kerrang, Fallout Boy and My Chemical Romance.

Both girls are tutored by well known music teacher and mentor, David Bass, who himself plays in acclaimed local bands, including Sparo & the Yahs.
